New Photography Club

Paul and I really enjoy photography, last year we went out quite a lot to take photos of various things. We'd been thinking for a while that we should set up some sort of photography club at church - we mentioned it to a few people in the Autumn and there seemed to be a reasonable amount of interest.

Yesterday afternoon we decided to wander over to Stockley Park to take some photos - it's right on our doorstep so we go fairly regularly - We had a fantastic time snapping away at everything and nothing in particular! I took over 600 pics which I've managed to whittle down to 30 to put in the gallery. I'm really pleased with my duck close up... it came out so much better than I expected Smiling Paul managed an amazing picture of a gull in flight with a fish in its mouth too.

The weather was lovely - a little too lovely actually, I'm a rather delicate shade of pink today! Amongst other things we saw a family of ducklings and a family of Coots. Baby Coots are scruffy little creatures! It was wonderful to see mum feeding them bits of soggy bread from round the edges of the lake.

It was a bit short notice to invite other people yesterday but it got us thinking we ought to set something up for next time. We're discussing it in the Forum section (feel free to join in) and have put some of our pictures up to start off the Photography Club section of the Gallery.

We're by no means experts and are still trying to get to grips with our cameras ourselves - too many knobs and fasncy menu settings! Really we just want to get out and have fun and hopefully get some good pictures at the same time. It really doesn't matter whether you consider yourself a good photographer or not, whether you have an impressive camera or just a point and shoot, or even just a mobile phone with a built in camera! We have a couple of spare cameras if you need to borrow one too. If you need help editing your photos afterwards there will be a chance to pile back to "Geek Towers" for a brew and a computer session. If this is something you'd like to get involved with you're more than welcome!

Rickmansworth Festival

There has been a festival of canal boats at Ricky Aquadrome for some years now. This year it is tomorrow and Sunday, and is massive, with all sorts of fairground thingies, trade stalls and entertainment marquees being put up in the area around the Aquadrome lakes. It is HUGE, and looks well worth a visit. Car parking may be difficult but I'm sure it must be OK to cater for the amount of people s fest this size is likely to attract.

Surprised there hasnt been more publicity, maybe the good burghers of Rickmanswirth want to keep it to themselves
