During the Week: Open Church - Page 1

Morning Prayer - Rosemary Blackbee

We are a small group who attend morning prayer. Rob Harrison normally leads us, which is always very interesting and gives great insight into what we are reading that day. I occasionally take over which I always find interesting. We always read the Psalms which seem to cover every emotion that we can go through in our normal lives.  Our discussions are sometimes very in depth to what we are discussing or can be light hearted or how we see the subject in our normal lives. Our small group consists of Linda White, Marigold Marsh, on occasions, Bob Lang, Rosemary Blackbee and Rob Harrison. I think we all enjoy it and it is a good start to the day.  We are normally joined by others on the Wednesday when communion is held.

Craft Group - Louise Moran

This year has seen Wednesday afternoons grow from a small, steady group of people to a group that can, at times, overspill into the refectory. We have a mixture of ages and abilities, and several different crafts in progress. We have knitted for charities and for gifts, crocheted Christmas decorations for the Fair, taught and relearned skills and had MANY entertaining conversations and tasty biscuits! It is a little haven of time to do something you enjoy without feeling the pressure of housework or hearing the phone, and there is a great 'group' feeling. Kids run wild in the background as needles click and dip in and out, and wool is wound, and for a few hours we just chat, laugh and work on our projects. Open to everyone, it sees the odd open church browser join us for a week or two, and we do enjoy new company...

Jazz Tuesdays and Fridays - Christine Bartlett

Jazz on Tuesdays and Friday lunchtimes is a weekly feature of our Open Church programme. The standard of our regular jazz musicians is very high and they will happily play requests! My current favourites amongst their repertoire is "Fly me to the Moon" and "Popsicle Toes". I would dearly love to see them playing to a larger audience. If you have never been along, do give it a try, you will be very welcome.
