Bereavement Support - Jean Jenkins and Beryl Rowles

The Bereavement and Friendship Group continues to meet on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 2.30 p.m.
We have welcomed new members over the past year. We are delighted to say, regardless of the weather, we have had good attendance, we all enjoy a relaxed time together. In December we went to see the pantomime ‘Robin Hood’ at the Beck Theatre.  We were able to recapture our youthful memories when we all joined in the pantomime responses and songs.  There was lots of laughter, and a happy time was had by all. Occasionally, we all enjoy midday meals together at a local restaurant, which has proved to be very popular with our members. If one lives on one’s own it can be a safe environment to discuss any concerns, and get support and guidance from church friends, which has proved to be very helpful. Under discussion at present:- we are hoping to arrange other visits for later this year. We are a very friendly and supportive group.  We welcome new members, and will visit anyone if necessary.

Art and Galleries Group - Barbara Hosier

We now have monthly visits to Art galleries and Museums which always include lunch somewhere cheap but nice!  Just before Christmas we went to the Courtauld Gallery at Somerset House to see the Turner Exhibition and afterwards we ate delicious food in the Crypt of St Martin in the Field!  We have been to some other really interesting places as follows: Tate Britain, The Wallace Collection, The National Gallery, The National Portrait Gallery and the  V & A Museum. Watch out for details of our next visit in the Link

Green Group - Barbara Hosier

What have we been up to this year in our quest to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle?  Read on

REDUCE: We requested a new heating control box so we can have more control over the heating in church – it’s now in place and working.  We have low energy bulbs in more lights.

REUSE: We set up a Swap Shop for people who want to give something away or sell for a modest sum, all we ask is a donation to St John's, in exchange. The Green Spot in church is the place to bring batteries, spectacles, mobile phones and printer cartridges and used stamps.

RECYCLE:  We organised for 3 large compost bins for the churchyard to recycle our tea bags and all garden waste. In addition, there are recycling containers in the refectory And we led the mid morning worship one Sunday last autumn, based on the theme of Taking care of God’s world! We have our monthly meetings on the 2nd Saturday of the month at 10.00am
