Open Church

Open ChurchSince Lent 2004 the doors of the church have been opened every Wednesday 9.30am till 3pm (as well as at various other times) as part of an initiative to make better use of our lovely building and to let the people of Hillingdon know that this is THEIR church.

A steady trickle of people have found their way in, for all sorts of reasons, and momentum is gathering for more of this openness.

Some come to look around or to research family history, others because they see the sign outside as they are passing and are curious to see inside. Now and then someone comes with a particular need looking for help of some kind.

Mrs ChapmanOnly recently, Mrs. Chapman (aged 92), who had been researching her family tree, was driving by the church with her daughter and son-in-law. She saw the 'open church' sign and called in to enquire if we knew anything about her great-great-grandparents. she had tried to find out information in various other locations but to no avail. Christine, our Church administrator, managed to find the grave and the family were delighted to make the discovery!

We believe that there are very many people who would not think of coming along on a Sunday to a service, but who would value a space to explore their spirituality, and that we have a responsibility to do all we can to offer them a hospitable place and to enable them to connect with God.

At the moment we are only able to open the building up when there are people in it (pending the building of secure storage for music equipment etc.)

When the monthly communion service or the cleaning team are not in action, a small but dedicated number of people offer hospitality, with a cup of tea if someone wants to chat, or by NOT breathing down the necks of those who don’t.

We are currently working on making the church more accessible in every way and welcome your ideas and feedback. If you do have any comments or suggestions, you can write, using the following address:
