Some churches have a group of young and beautiful people who stand at the front combining musical expertise with a profound holiness...
... but some don't ...
If you've been to St John's
you will have noticed that we are a motley crew, mostly without any 'proper' music training. Some of us literally blew the dust off instruments we hadn't touched since schooldays, and others are 'learning on the job'. We are too tired to stand up for long, but we do know how to enjoy ourselves making a joyful noise... Thankfully the congregations are VERY forgiving.
Our new organist, George
shares the musical workload in the mid- morning sections of our Sunday worship
each week. In the late morning sections all music is led by the music group.
We practice on two Thursday evenings and one Saturday morning each month. Mostly we use 'Hymns Old and New' and 'The Source', but our (vast and ever-expanding) repertoire ranges from the very old to the bang-up-to-the-minute; via Negro spirituals,
Taize and all sorts of things in between.

Please join us!
We are very keen to recruit new members to play, sing, bang something, shake something... Singers especially welcome. We won't throw you in at the deep end if you just want to come along and dip your toe in the water. We’re always looking for more people to sit at the sound desk too.
Some of us have been playing together for enough years now to be able to 'go with the flow' when extra musical bits are sprung upon us by the vicar at the last minute...bless him... and Christine does a good job trying to get us all singing from the same hymn sheet. Our long suffering and neglected offspring are getting quite good at tambourine-ing in emergencies, and there’s definitely potential for a youth band in the
not-too-distant future…
We value your prayers and gracious encouragement more than you can know.
