Housekeeping News
Our Finance Group reviewed the church's 6 month accounts last week. We have a £5625 deficit for the first half of this year. St John's does not have enough reserves to sustain this level of loss for another year. Please consider whether your financial contribution to our church is a realistic offering in the light of your own finances and lifestyle. We are organising a Gift Day on Saturday 10th October at which we will hope to raise enough money, firstly to make up this worrying shortfall, and secondly to set up a fund to cover the proposed improvements to our church building. Please remember that running our church costs over £100,000 per year, and all that money has to be raised locally
General News
Swine Flu: the recommendation that we have received this week from the Diocese is that we should not use the chalice in our communion. Please also take extra care when washing your hands when handling food /drinks. These procedures are being reviewed on a regular basis.
The funeral of Kay Woods will take place at Breakspear Crematorium on Wednesday 29th July at 12.30.
Attention Waitrose shoppers! Sarah Grace Boxes (Graeme and Louise's charity providing memory box kits to the maternity unit at our hospital) is one of the charities in this month's 'community matters' scheme. It doesn't cost you anything, but if you donate your green token to us each time you shop, Waitrose will donate money to help the charity continue to supply the kits... Many thanks!'
For parents of preschoolers: our little Sunday school will be on holiday over the summer break. If you have a child below school age and feel that you would like to take them out for a break during the ten o'clock slot, you are welcome to use the meeting room. Children must be accompanied at all times, but feel free to work out a childshare arrangement with another mum! If you can bring an activity to share it would be helpful. The activity trolley will be in the room for those who are happy to colour in, but playdoh, sticking etc would be welcome! Enjoy the summer, and we will be back again at the start of term.
Barn Dance: we hope that this event will raise much needed funds for St John's. It takes place on Sat 31st Oct at 7.30pm in the Church Hall. Tickets are £10 adults, £5 under 18's. This includes a ploughman's supper. Tickets will be on sale from September from Helen Hamlin or Christine Bartlett.
“Course in Christian Studies”: this is a 2 year course run by the Diocese starting in September on Tuesday evenings 7.45-9.45 £150 per year at St Stephen s Church, Ealing. There are more details in a leaflet at the back of church.
For details of other courses and events in the Diocese please see the “Living Christianity” poster on the noticeboard
